In Gord We Trust
On October 18, 2017, Canadians awoke to sad news. Gord Downie, lead singer of the band The Tragically Hip, passed away on October 17, surrounded by loved ones. Downie had an incurable form of brain cancer. It was expressed in an official statement on the band's website, that "Gord knew this day was coming – his response was to spend this precious time as he always had – making music, making memories and expressing deep gratitude to his family and friends for a life well lived, often sealing it with a kiss… on the lips." Downie had such an amazing love for the country he called home, and led many philanthropic endeavours in environmentalism, Indigenous affairs, and more. Since Downie's passing, many tributes have popped up around the country, including this humble monument to a humble legend.
